Mikkeli Region

The Mikkeli Region Centre of Expertise strives to activate, implement and coordinate measures related to developing and applying new material technology, and to enhancing business competencies. The centre’s areas of expertise comprise functional thin film coatings, R&D in industrial surface coating processes, surface characterisation, composite structure design, new materials related to composites and environmental applications, and the productisation and commercialisation of research outcomes related to these fields.

The faculties of the Mikkeli University Consortium, together with Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences, form the centre of expertise’s strong cross-disciplinary R&D foundation. The particular strength of the Mikkeli region lies in in-depth knowledge of Russia, which is supported by the centre’s own technology representative in St. Petersburg.
