HealthBIO

In the HealthBIO cluster, the Oulu region is responsible for the lab-to-plant network and for biomolecular recognition. Other main areas are PAT and AgroBio.

The HB cluster’s major research, education and cooperation partners are the University of Oulu, OAMK, THL and PPSHP. VTT, MTT and Metla also play significant roles in the region. Cross-disciplinary cooperation (e.g. bio, micro, nano and ICT) is one of the leading aspects of the region’s competence.

The Oulu region contains around 50 businesses in the sector, of which one third are pharmaceutical research development service providers, one third are plant and agro-biotechnology companies, and the final third diagnostics and other companies. The area also houses local branches of globally operational companies. The region invests strongly in commercialisation and growth entrepreneurship.
