Nanotechnology
The Nanotechnology Cluster Programme in Turku region is concentrating on functional materials, materials surface properties and printed intelligence. In the programme Turku Science Park is working together with both local universities, University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University.
One of the main research targets is to combine the expertise in chemistry, physics, polymer technology, paper coating and printing. This is especially done in the Center for Functional Materials (FunMat), a national center of excellence in printed intelligence based in Åbo Akademi University and University of Helsinki. In the University of Turku material research is carried out in the joint centre of several laboratories of chemistry and physics, Turku University Centre for Materials and Surfaces (MatSurf).
Co-operation in surface physics and chemistry between University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and Centre of Expertise of Southwest Finland has resulted in founding of a contract research company, Top Analytica Ltd, providing materials surface research and analytical expertise.
Another local partner is Forest Pilot Center (FPC), a versatile pilot plant offering coating, printing and post press services to paper, graphic and packaging industries. In Turku region there are also pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies applying nanotechnology.
