Cleantech
Cleantech solutions for clean environment
The Finnish Cleantech Cluster covers around 60 per cent of the Finnish cleantech business and 80 per cent of related research. The players in this network consist of, besides four Centers of Expertise, over 260 companies and the major universities and reseach institutes of Finland. The cooperation has given birth to many innovative solutions, which are related to energy, water and air quality, among others. The Cluster has also helped to create more than 500 new jobs in the Finnish cleantech sector.
Currently the Cluster is conducting Finland’s first comprehensive analysis on those areas of Finnish technology, where the country has top knowhow in cleantech and possibilities to flourish internationally. An example of the cooperation between the Competence Clusters is a fine particulate project which is carried out together with the Nanotechnology and Energytechnology Clusters.
As to the internationalisation, the focus is in the neighbouring countries as well as Russia, China, USA, Japan and India. For the marketing efforts, clusters from cleantech companies are being formed. Also the cooperation with EU-partners is being developed.
The Finnish Cleantech Cluster consists of the following:
- Kuopio Region Center of Expertise, Kuopio Innovation Ltd
- Lahti Region Center of Expertise, Lahti Science and Business Park Ltd, the coordinator of the Cluster
- Oulu Region Center of Expertise, Oulu Innovation Ltd
- Helsinki Region Center of Expertise, Culminatum Ltd/Green Net Finland ry
Focuses
The focus ares of the Cluster are based on the knowhow of international scale of each Center of Expertise as well as on the strengths of the regional businesses.
A common spearhead of the Cluster is environmental monitoring, which combines the ICT and environmental knowhow. Environmental monitoring is one the fastest growing areas in environmental technology. In this sector, the Cluster’s main projects have integrative points, which are being strengthened.
In Kuopio, one of the national spearhead projects is a technology network concentrating on climate, air quality and health. Another project focuses on environmental informatics.
Lahti concentrates on developing cleantech businesses by coordinating capital venturing and internationalising programs, among others. The national spearhead projects of Oulu are catalystic air purification and water purification.Environmental monitoring and urban energy efficiency are the projects of Helsinki area.
