Food Development

Vision 2013

In 2013, Finland is the leading producer of wholesome, health-promoting and safe food in Europe.

Healthy diet turned into products and services

The Food Development Competence Cluster develops the competitiveness of the food industry both in the domestic market and internationally. The central emphasis in the cluster programme is on developing healthy and safe foods.

Healthy and functional food products are created by investing in the study and development of new products, raw materials, packaging methods and processes. The development efforts always consider the point of view of the consumer, which is examined with the aid of various market research services provided by the competence cluster.

Strategic focuses

Developing and bringing to the market foods that uphold and promote health

The objective is the utilisation of domestic raw materials, the development of processes, packages and technologies as well as the prevention of lifestyle diseases by means of food development.

Promoting the well-being of the consumer

The purpose is to recognise the expectations of the consumer, to utilise knowledge of the food markets and to develop restaurant and food services.

Developing risk management and safety throughout the food production chain

The objective is to develop the safety systems of the Finnish food production chain, to take our competence in the management of food safety abroad and to develop pathogen risk management within the food production chain.
