Living Business
Residents and their housing environment
The core of the Living business cluster focuses on user initiated living solutions.
The goal of the cluster is to make cooperation and networking between the participants tighter and thus speed up the development of solutions to serve residents. This further allows the finding of innovative ways to promote environmental sustainability, growth and internationalization of the companies in the industry.
Such close cooperation will make the recognition of best practices, the development of new living solutions and the adaptation of new building technologies more effective. Additionally, the active sharing of information will pave the way for developing innovative resident initiatives and environmentally responsible solutions to improve the productivity and international competitiveness of businesses. Another goal is to use ethnographic research to help with the developing and directing of the business and research towards future business opportunities.
The Centres of Expertise that are part of Living Business are Culminatum Innovation Oy Ltd (Helsinki Region), Technology Centre Innopark (Häme Region), Lahti Science and Technology park (Lahti Region), Joensuu Science Park (North Carelia region) and the Associate member Posintra Oy (Electrical Building Services Centre STOK, Porvoo)
Strategic focus areas
The operation of the cluster breaks down into four themes:
Environmentally responsible living
Innovative urban living
The potential for using wood as a residential construction material
Internationalism in living and construction
Through its operations, the centre of expertise supports neighbourhood construction projects in cities, the themes of which are increased urban density, ecology, progressive innovation and new planning and realization processes. The goal is to increase the architectural quality and exportability of Finnish residential construction methods.
By repairing and renovating the development and realization of new neighbourhood models will also be supported. And, in the operations of the centre of expertise, innovative solutions for increased building that can assist in developing urban density and help finance basic renovations in apartment buildings are also sought.
Furthermore, energy efficiency in new residential construction and renovations will be emphasized because basic renovation contains the potential for improving the existing stock of buildings through adaptations for various user groups. The use of digital technology is increasing in planning, process control and information exchange as well as in helping to improve the management of everyday activities.
